Donald Ralph
Laidlaw
February 16, 1960 – November 24, 2023
Laidlaw, Donald Ralph "Donnie" (Sgt. Ret.) of Kingston, NS passed away November 24, 2023 after a brief illness. He passed peacefully with Christine by his side.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Christine (nee Lane); his children, Cristopher and Sammie; brothers, Ron (Sue) and Steve (Nicole) and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Doug and Shirley Laidlaw.
Don was born in Quebec on February 16, 1960. Don joined the Canadian Armed Forces firstly the Army in the Infantry in 1982 then remustered to the Air Force in 1989. He retired in 2007, the first time, then chose to teach as a reservist, and that led to three more attempts at retirement before it finally happened in 2016 where he and Christine moved to Nova Scotia.
In 1989 and 1993, he welcomed his two beautiful children, Cris and Sammie, respectively, who were the most important part of his life. He was so very proud of the young adults they became.
Don was kind and generous to his core, helping anyone in need of assistance night or day. In retirement, he rediscovered Nova Scotia by road tripping through back roads, or any road that had the name lighthouse, wharf, or shore in it, even if he had no idea where he was. He was Christine's rock, always helping her to get the perfect shot, even if it meant digging her out of the mud. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
A special thank you to Dr. Crystal Todd and the doctors, nurses and staff at Valley Hospice. Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service at this time, as per Don's wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Valley Hospice Foundation, Kentville, Nova Scotia. The online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
