Donald Ervin
Lightfoot
June 28, 1922 – October 9, 2017
LIGHTFOOT, Donald Ervin – age 95 of Wilmot, NS passed away peacefully in the Veteran's Unit at SMH, Middleton on October 9, 2017. Born June 28, 1922 in Prince Albert NS, he was the youngest son of late Walter and Mary (Daniels) Lightfoot. He was a Veteran of World War II, assigned to the Postal Corps, serving in Italy/Sicily. He was the last member of his immediate family. After his war service, Don spent his working years primarily as a carpenter but was skilled in the other trades involved in building, with a special interest in electrical work. He also worked for various fuel delivery companies. Don loved to work and was happiest when he had a carpentry project to plan or to build, spending many hours with Kevin teaching him the "old ways" of building. Although he wasn't a singer, he loved gospel music, especially when Wendy and Ann sang, as well as whistling parts of many familiar hymns himself. He enjoyed following the Chicago Black Hawks during hockey season. Don had a way of making those around him smile with his sense of humor. His witty 'come backs' will be missed by family and friends. Don is survived by son Kevin (Marilyn) Lightfoot, Wilmot NS; daughters Wendy Lightfoot, Wilmot NS and Ann (Peter) MacLean, Elbow SK; grandchildren Holly Lightfoot, Sackville NB; Mikaela Lightfoot, Halifax NS; Sam (Naomi) MacLean, Havelock NB; Nikolas MacLean, Elbow SK and Nathan MacLean, Margaretsville NS. He is also survived by brother-in-law Reg (Pat) Lewis, sisters-in-law Marjorie Carey, Mildred Payson and Charlotte Aalders as well as many nieces and nephews. Don was very proud of his family and enjoyed hearing about their various accomplishments. Don was predeceased by his wife the former Kathleen Lewis; brothers Dick (Hazel) Lightfoot, Charles (Vivian) Lightfoot; sisters Evelyn (Charles) Thompson, Millie (Allison) Parks, Edna Lightfoot, Helen Lightfoot and Leah Craig. Visitation will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. Middleton (902)825-3448 where the funeral service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 3:30pm with Rev. Warren Jones officiating. Reception to follow the service. Interment will be in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square. Donations in memory may be made to Gideons International In Canada, the War Amps or charity of your choice. The Lightfoot family would like to thank the staff of the DVA Unit at SMH for their professional and compassionate care provided to Dad over the past three and a half years. Your warmth and kindness made a difference that we will treasure forever.
