Obituary

MacDONALD, Donald Clyde ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Clyde MacDonald, age 85, of Greenwood, Kings Co. on Friday, February 25, 2022 in Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born July 20, 1936 in Hopewell Pictou Co. He was the son of Clarence F.H. and Alice N. (Bowen) MacDonald. Mourning this great loss but thankful for a lifetime of memories are the love of his life, wife of 64 years Florence E. (Stewart); and their daughter, Dawn and her husband Robert; also grieving the loss of their Poppy are granddaughters, Jessica (Jean-Philippe Tremblay) and Melissa MacIntosh as well as great grandsons, Jase and Jaxon Tremblay; sister-in-law, Sharon (Clyde) Purvis, Westville; brother-in-law, Basil (Beth) Stewart, Middleton.

Donald had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 22 years and later with his wife owned and operated Don's Home Appliance for 30 years. He was well known for his community involvement and his hobby was attending meetings. Donald was a member of Kingston United Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. He was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, Kingston and Kingston Lions Club for 45 years. Donald served as a Kings County Councillor for nine years and was a past commissioner for the Greenwood Village Commission.

He was a member of the liberal party and loved a good political discussion. Donald was a former chair of the Western Kings Memorial Hospital board in Berwick, and past member of Kings Regional Rehabilitation Board of Directors.  He and his wife wintered in Florida for 12 years, and enjoyed time spent at the cottage, camping, playing cards and square dancing. Donald will be remembered for being a people person who enjoyed having company visit and time spent visiting with others.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Larry MacDonald; brother, Wayne MacDonald.

Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m., Friday, March 18, with a Lions tribute at 7:30pm in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Memorial service will take place 2 p.m., Saturday, March 19, in Kingston United Baptist Church, with Rev. Sarah Scott officiating. Interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery. Due to current pandemic gathering restrictions, there will be limited numbers at both visitation and funeral service. Masking and hand sanitizing are required at all indoor and outdoor ceremonies.  Donations in his memory may be made to Parkinson Canada or Kingston United Baptist Church.
