MATHESON, Donald Thomas - 92, of Halifax, passed away July 15, 2016 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, NS. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Donald J. and Mary E. (Currie) Matheson. Don's career as an electrical engineer spanned over 6 decades, working at Northern Electric, Montreal, Fundy Gypsum Co., Windsor, NS, and Dawco Electric, Halifax, NS. He founded D.T. Matheson Engineering in the early 1970's, where he continued at the helm for over 35 years designing the electrical for countless projects in the Maritimes and beyond, reluctantly retiring at age 85. He was a lifetime member of the Assoc. of Professional Engineers of N.S., a member of the N.S. Consulting Engineers Assoc., and the Assoc. of Consulting Engineers of Canada. All things electrical were his passion, both professionally and in leisure. The first microwave in Halifax was, no doubt, the one he built in the 1960's, amazing us all with that new space age technology. As Dad reaches those pearly gates, he will probably gaze upwards at the lighting (as he always did) and ponder the design of that heavenly light! Don and wife, Olive, enjoyed many years at the Queensland cottage, welcoming family, friends and numerous two and four-legged creatures. He is survived by daughter Pamela (Michael) Gaul, Lawrencetown, beloved grandchildren Jesse Gaul and Jenna (Rob) Hughes-Games, nieces and nephews, special niece Anne Gibson and special friend Diana Gaul. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Olive (Hubley) and siblings Joseph, Irene and Barbara. Cremation has taken place with private family interment at a later date.
