Donald Elverston Ogilvie
April 20, 1933 ~ January 7, 2024
Donnie passed away January 7, 2024 at Heart of The Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. His battle to peace was a long, hard fought one and his family and friends are happy he can now rest. He was born on April 20, 1933 in Welton's Corner, NS. He was the son of Helen and Charles Ogilvie and the youngest of four boys. He was predeceased by his Mom, Dad and all 3 siblings, Theodore, Merrill and Tim. Donnie married the love of his life, Doris Elizabeth Anne Dugan, on June 4th 1955. 68 years together and Doris held his hand on his last day before they went off to bed. Donnie and Doris had 4 daughters Teresa, Susan, Judith and Nancy. Those daughters gave him 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Grampy, as he was lovingly called, will be sadly missed by everyone of us.
Many people will remember Donnie from his farming days and he was most famous for his apple cider, a craft he perfected long before cider making became cool. Many a laugh was had over his special cider.
In his younger years he worked hard but always remembered to enjoy life. He and Mom travelled many a mile in their camper. They had a fantastic group of friends and had a lot of fun times at Lion's Hall dances, Legion dances and bon fires on the beach to name only a few.
The family would especially like to thank all those who were kind to our Dad over the last few years of his life. To those friends and family who visited him at HOTV, thank you, it meant the world to him. To the workers at HOTV that gave him a little extra love, thank you, it meant the world to him and us.
As per his wishes, cremation has been arranged and there will not be a funeral. There will be a small graveside service in the future.
Anyone wishing to pay respect in the form of a donation can do so to the Aylesford United Church Cemetery fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
