Obituary

SHARP, Rev. Donald Douglas McLeod "Fr. Don" ~ age 88, of Kingston, NS, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton surrounded by his family. Born in Hampton, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late William and Constance (Crawford) Sharp.  Don graduated Hampton Consolidated School in June 1948. He completed a bookkeeping course at Modern Business College in May 1949 and worked as a bookkeeper for his father's business; which was the oldest independent manufacturer of dairy, poultry and hog feeds in Canada. Don was confirmed in St. Mary's Anglican Church, in Hampton, NB, on May 21, 1960. Don commenced study for the Anglican Priesthood at Medley Hall, an older men's course for the ministry. He received his Lay Reader's Licence on October 1, 1960; became a Deacon on May 24, 1964 and was ordained as Priest on November 30, 1965. Don served in the parish of St. Paul's in Hampton, NB; the Parish of St. Luke's in Saint John, and also the Parishes of Upham, and Restigouche, NB. In Nova Scotia, Don served in the Parish of Clements, the Parish of Seaforth and the Parish of Wilmot and was the Regional Dean of the Eastern Shore and also of Annapolis. Unfortunately, chronic glaucoma in both eyes forced Don's retirement in 1985. As a result of lens replacement surgery, Don was able to act as a Supply Priest on various occasions throughout his retirement years. Don was also an Honorary Priest for the Parishes of Aylesford and Berwick. In his youth, Don enjoyed stamp collecting, hockey (goalie position), badminton, cycling and camping. Gardening and cooking became favourite pastimes in later years. Don was well-known for the many soups and stir-fries he enjoyed making. Constant throughout the years was his passion for painting.  Don will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 62 years, married June 23, 1956, June (Mason); daughter Diana (Michael) Lewis, Aylesford; sons, David (Anne) Sharp, Greenwood; Timothy "Tim" Sharp, Kingston; Robert (Holly Ha) Sharp, Kingston, ON; Colin (Michele) Sharp, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Audrey, Katherine, Emma and Rowan. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his sister Beatrice. In keeping with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, November 2, 2018 in St. Mary's Anglican Church, Auburn with Rev. Mel Malton officiating.  Interment will be in St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery, followed by a reception for family and friends in the church annex. Donations in memory may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church, The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund, the VON Annapolis Valley Branch or Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.
