STOAKLEY, Donna Mary - 62 of Clarence, Annapolis County passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at home, surrounded by her family . Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late John Ellis and Mary Marie (Parker) King. In earlier years, Donna had worked as a legal secretary in Halifax and Ottawa. During her "retirement years" she was employed as a P.C.W. at the Adult Residential Centre, Bridgetown. Over the last number of years, Donna took lessons in piano, guitar, voice and Spanish. She enjoyed clogging , bowling and was a member of the Lawrencetown Village Strutters Red Hatters. Donna was a dedicated volunteer with Mid-Valley Palliative Care, the Lawrencetown Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and the Adult Residential Centre, Bridgetown. She was a member of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church. Loved and missed by her husband Charles "Chuck"; step-daughters Emma Kathleen, Halifax, Carol Murphy, Halifax and Cindy Amero, Edmonton, AB; step-son Douglas Stoakley, Salisbury, NB; sister Joy (Gordon) MacKay, Grafton, Kings County; brother George (Barb) King, Digby; seven step-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. By request, cremation has taken place and there will not be any visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 7th, 2014 in the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, Rev. Patty Beals officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held following the service in the church hall. A private family interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Digby on Monday. Donations in memory may be made to the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church or CAPS (Companion Animal Protection Society). Donna's family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to Dr. Burgess, Katrina Patterson and the VON for the wonderful care she received as they are extremely grateful for their kindness and support.
