Obituary

Doreen Pickering departed her loving family and friends on November 9, 2021. She was the mother to Richard and Cathy who she raised with love and devotion with her late husband Alfred Pickering.  She is survived by 3 grandsons Sam, Colby and Max who made up the entirety of her world.  She had the fortune have an incredible friend, Sharon, who has been an angel on earth to her and our family.

When asked what we remember most about our Mother it was her love for our father.  As a couple, they endured life's ups and downs as a duo, rarely separate from each other and still held hands while walking the sidewalks of Kingston.

Our Mom loved children and touched countless lives during her 33 year teaching career at Kingston Elementary. Another of her great loves was sports, especially the Montreal Canadians, which made for an interesting annual hockey season as Dad's team was the New York Rangers.

As a family we traveled from base to base as Dad was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, but Cape Breton was their home.  Fondest memories include family get togethers, playing cards at Moe's (Dad's brother) and big belly laughs with his sister Judy's infectious sense of humor.

We want to thank the staff at both Ivy Meadows and Elk Court nursing homes who treated Mom with dignity, respect, patience, kindness, and thoughtfulness because they know inside every person with Alzheimer's is a very real person with a soul struggling hard to be heard and acknowledged.

The troubles and anxieties of life without a memory are now a distant past for Mom and she can walk clear-headed with Dad and other Angels in Heaven.
