Obituary

GATES, Doris Mae Age 84, long-time resident of Waterville, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at her home in Orchard View Apartments, Berwick. Born in Berwick, on January 20, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Ralph J.L. and Gladys A. (Fredericks) Ward. Doris had been a dedicated employee of the Royal Bank of Canada, working at the Waterville, Berwick and Coldbrook branches, retiring after 28 years of service. She was always an active member of her community. Doris was a member of the Waterville Baptist Church, serving on the finance committee as well as various other committees. She was also very involved with fund raising on the building committee for the construction of the current Base Station of the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department, and had served on the Waterville Field Days Committee. She is survived by her children, Wanda (Eugene) Blackburn, Black Rock; Kevin (Gail) Gates, Port Dover, Ont.; Vaughn (Joy) Gates, Waterville; Tim (Cheryl) Gates, Berwick; grandchildren, Lynda (Colleen) Blackburn, Robin (Ian) Gates-MacLean, Terri Lynn, Jacob (Chelsey), Shelby, Zachary and Kyle Gates; great-grandchildren, Ryerson, Landen, Mark and Alex; sisters, Shirley (the late Garth) Sweet, Beaverbank; Joyce (the late Cecil) Hiscock, Gary, N.B.; sister-in-law, Hazel Ward, Kentville; brother-in-law, Ronald Corbett, South Alton; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Everett V. Gates; grandson, Brian Blackburn; brother, Robert Ward; sister, Pauline Corbett. Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m., Monday, April 30, in Waterville Baptist Church, 1243 Mill St., Waterville. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, in Waterville Baptist Church, with Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating. Interment will take place in Berwick Cemetery, with a reception to follow. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Waterville Baptist Church, Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department or the Canadian Cancer Society.
