Sproul, Doris Irene ~ Age 92, of Greenwood, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, in Valley Hospice, Kentville. Born in Port Wade, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Willard and Edith (Pulford) Apt.
Doris was a devoted military wife who made homes for her family while they were posted to Greenwood, Nova Scotia, and Torbay, Newfoundland. She worked at Helen's Lunch in Annapolis and was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing, knitting, and cooking. She spent many enjoyable weekends attending car shows featuring Triumph sports cars and loved camping and travelling in the family motor home. Doris always made sure her cookie jar was full for anyone who stopped by to visit. Doris was an avid reader and kept Craig & Marianne busy looking for large print books.
She is survived by her sons, Allan (Louise) Sproul, Wilmot; Kevin (Maggie Rio) Sproul, Greenwood; and Craig (Marianne Daine) Sproul, South Williamston; brother, Fred "Ted" Apt, Ottawa, Ontario; grandchildren, Teri Sproul (Patrick MacIntyre), Halifax; Melissa Orenchuk (Sean), Kingston; Shawna Morrell (Scott), Dauphin, Manitoba; Chris Rio, Greenwood; Jeff Rio (Nikita), Greenwood; Tim Rio, Greenwood; Eric (Gillian) Sproul, Porters Lake; Amanda Gillet (Edmond), Harvey, New Brunswick; and Halie Sproul, Whitby, Ontario. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kylea, Ashlynn, Landyn, Tegan, Kevin, Kelsey, Allison, Ewan, Isla, Willow, Raven, and Ivy; and great-great-grandchildren, Kason and Everleigh.
Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband, Malcolm; granddaughter, Erin; brother, Robert; and sister, Margaret.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Valley Hospice, Kentville, and to the VON Annapolis Valley for the exceptional care and compassion shown to our Mom. A special thank you is also extended to Anita for her weekly visits. Your kindness, friendship, and dedicated care will never be forgotten.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton (1-855-825-3448), with Rev. Elisabeth Bachem–Jennings officiating.
