WATERFIELD, Doris Mary - 75, of Hilltop Villa, Dartmouth, formerly of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, passed away on May 4, 2010, in the ICU at Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, but raised in Paradise, Doris was the daughter of the late David and Georgina Waterfield. Doris is survived by her sister: Shirley Porter, Lawrencetown; nieces: Lesley (Wayne) MacDonald, Granville Centre; Nancy (Richard) Illsley, North Williamston; nephews: George (Karen) Porter, Lawrencetown; Blair (Cathy) Porter, New Hampshire; great nieces and nephews: Darcy Sampson, Winnipeg; Jordan and Caitlin Porter, New Hampshire; Morgan, Alex, and Patrick Illsley, North Williamston; and Trevor Chandler, Lawrencetown. Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her brothers, Arthur Jacques, Lawrencetown, and George Jacques, who was killed in Sicily in WWII. She was also recently predeceased by her brother-in-law, W.L. Porter, Lawrencetown. Doris worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 25 years at the Veterans Unit, Camp Hill Hospital, a job she dearly loved. Her lifetime affliction with asthma forced her to take an early retirement. While her asthma was a serious condition, it did not prevent Doris from enjoying life. She was very interested in the people that she met, always making new friends, and enjoyed talking about Cape Breton and the Valley. Doris was very happy during her four years as a resident of Hilltop Villa, where she moved after many years living in Halifax, and enjoyed her new friends there. Doris was a telephone person and used it to keep in contact with family and friends. Doris will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her those who knew her. Doris was a special sister and aunt. Her family will miss her support, encouragement and interest in their lives. Visitation will be held today from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where the funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010, Bill Hale officiating. Reception will be held following the service. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
