Dorothy Marilyn
King
September 4, 1951 – September 12, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Dorothy Marilyn King (Crossman) of Berwick, Kings Co., N.S, on Friday, September 12, 2025, surrounded by her daughters, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Dorothy was born in Parrsboro, NS, on September 4, 1951, to the late Edgar N. and G. Lorraine (Cottenden) Crossman.
Following her high school graduation in Parrsboro, Dorothy attended Mount Allison University, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts. She then went on to Acadia University to continue her education graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Education. She had fallen in love with the Annapolis Valley and made this her new home to start her career. Her early years in teaching were spent at schools in Middleton and Hants West before settling in to teach at Berwick and District School where she spent the remainder of her teaching career.
In 1978, Dorothy married her soulmate Graeme and together they raised their three girls in Berwick. Following their retirements, Dorothy and Graeme enjoyed traveling with family and friends locally and internationally until Graeme's death in 2021.
Over the years, Dorothy was an active participant with various organizations and associations in the community of Berwick, including Feed My Lambs and the Berwick Food Bank. She also enjoyed her time knitting with the Lake George Bear Ladies, cross-stitching for family and friends, playing cards with the ladies and socializing with the Friday morning coffee group at Wheaton's.
Our mother's approach to navigating her long journey with cancer is a wonderful example to us. Her positive attitude, her meeting each challenge with grace and dignity, were a comfort to us and to her friends. We all marvelled at her unfailing kindness and generosity throughout her life.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Suzanne and Stephanie, Berwick, and Andrea, Halifax. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Yorke; sister-in-law, Karen Stothart (Keith); brothers-in-law, Barry King (Mary Ellen), Wayne King (Debi) and Colin King (Angela); several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; as well as close family friend, Cleo D'Eon. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by husband, Graeme King; Graeme's parents, Archibald and Joan King; brothers-in-law, Harlan Yorke and Brian King; and close family cousin, Jim Cottenden.
Special thanks go to Dr. Puetz, Dr. McCarthy, and the staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for their care and support.
