Doug Mewton, of Lake George, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026 in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born in Alberta, was the last surviving member of his immediate family and the son of the late Bernard “Bert” Mewton and Virginia (Reynolds) Mewton. He later relocated with his family to British Columbia, where he graduated from high school with honours.He went on to serve five years in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at 14 Wing Greenwood, where he met the love of his life, Myrtle Marguerite Lutz. They were married in 1960 and shared many years together before Myrtle’s passing in 2016.Following his military service, Doug pursued further training in electronics in the United States, where he spent four years before returning to Canada. He built a home, raised his family, and established deep roots in his community of Lake George. Doug was known for his quiet dedication and strong work ethic. He contributed meaningfully through his municipal work and extensive volunteer efforts, often preferring to remain behind the scenes. He also built a successful career with Snap-on Tools, earning the respect of colleagues and community members throughout the county and beyond. He is survived by his children, Mark Mewton, and Shelley Mewton (Lindsay Stoddart) of Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by those closest to him.The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of Heart of the Valley for their compassionate care, and to Middleton Funeral Home for their kindness and support. There will be no visitation. Burial and a graveside service will be held at a later date in Morristown Cemetery. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada.
