Obituary

PERRY, Douglas Alfred "Doug" - age 74 of Waterville, Kings Co., passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Donald S. and Edith B. (Joudrey) Perry. Doug and family spent 12 years in Wabush, Labrador, where he owned and operated his own janitorial service and mechanical business, repairing trucks for Wabush Mines.  Upon returning to the Annapolis Valley in 1979, Doug first worked at K & J Industries and later with the Department of Transportation, as a snow plow driver, foreman and later working in the mechanical division. He was a veteran member of the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department, with over 30 years of service. Doug was a lover of animals and especially his dogs who meant so much to him. He was a great man who will be sorely missed. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Shirley A. Steadman; daughter, Debbie (Joe) Hardy, Windermere; son, Kevin Perry, Black Rock; grandchildren, Katherine and Daniel; sisters, Elizabeth "Liz" Baltzer, Waterville; Pamela (the late Patrick) Dutton, Berwick; brothers, John Perry and Richard (Ruth) Perry, both of Waterville; Michael (Jane) Perry, Berwick; sister-in-law, Sandy Perry, Waterville; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Donald Perry; a sister in infancy; niece, Kerri Lynn Dutton. There will be no visitation. Memorial service will take place at 3 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, in Waterville Baptist Church, 1243 Mill St., Waterville. Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating, with a reception in Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Waterville Baptist Church or any charity.
