MacLennan, Duncan L . - Age 84 years of Kingston, Ontario, formerly of Middleton, Annapolis Co., N.S., passed away on July 1, 2023, in Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Kingston, Ontario.
Born in Noranda, PQ, he was the son of the late Murdoch and Flora Mae MacLennan (Kennedy), He was raised in Virginiatown, ON. Duncan graduated from Kirkland Lake CVI in 1958. He joined the RCAF where he trained for 2 years to become an RO and was posted to the RCAF base in Greenwood, NS.
In 1962 he married Marilyn Taylor, a music teacher. In 1964, after completing his Short Service Commission, he and Marilyn attended McMaster University where Duncan spent his spare time curling. He graduated in 1968. They then moved to Elgin, ON where Duncan became a Phys Ed teacher at Rideau D.H.S. They adopted Jennifer in 1970 and Colin a year later. Duncan was appointed Vice Principal in Brockville in 1976, the Principal of Kapuskasing DHS in 1979, and he transferred to Wallaceburg in 1987. Duncan enjoyed sailing with Marilyn and even captained voyages from Ontario to Nova Scotia and then to Newfoundland. He also took up marathon running. Duncan retired from Chatham CI in 1995.
After Marilyn retired, they sold their home in Wallaceburg and made their cottage on Connell Lake, NS their summer home and took up the RVing lifestyle. In 2000 they settled on the Fountain of Youth Spa & Campground in Southern California as their winter home. There they took up horseshoes, square dancing, hiking, and Duncan served as the MC of a Tuesday night talent show. Eleven wonderful years! In 2019 they settled into their condo in Middleton, NS.
Duncan is survived by his wife, Marilyn MacLennan of over 60 years, his daughter Jennifer (Vince Gagner), his son Colin, five wonderful grandchildren: Avril, Sienna, Ellita, Owen, and Niamh, his brother Lyle, sisters-in-law Diana and Margo, brother-in-law Jim, and nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, but a Celebration of Life will occur on August 27, at the Royal Military College, Kingston, ON. The burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Middleton, NS at a future date. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
