Bennett, Earl Lewis – 80, of Nictaux, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Canning, he was a son of the late Earl and Gladys (Houghton) Bennett.
Earl retired as Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Middleton after 31 years. He was a Life Member of the Association of Municipal Administrators. Earl was a past director of VON, a past director of the NS Golf Association, past director of Eden Golf and Country Club, past member of Middleton Rotary Club and a past member of the Heart of the Valley Festival Committee. He was inducted into the Macdonald Museum Sports Wall of Fame in 2012. When he wasn't volunteering, Earl enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, going on his ATV, and, of course, golfing. In addition to his family, the Duke of Earl and Thumper, his rescued feline fur babies, brought much love and comfort to Earl.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, the former Linda Daurie, Nictaux; daughters, Christine (Robert) Taylor, Aylesford; Patricia Bennett (Stephen Fifield), Albany Cross; sisters, Jean Tupper, Kentville; Juanita Huntley, New Minas; Linda Frail, Northfield; Brenda (Walden) Carty, Grafton; Deborah (Lawrence) Gauthier, Charlottetown, PEI; Cathy Ball, Kentville; Darlene Bennett, Cornwall, ON; brothers, Bernard "Bud" (Karen), Winnipeg, Man; Bradford, Port Williams; grandchildren, Kyle (Leanne) Taylor, Middleton; Jordan Taylor, McLennan, AB; David Taylor (Ashley Gillard), Bowmanville, ON; Adam Butt, Kingston; Brett Cogswell, Kingston; great grandchildren, Sierra Benoit, Mulgrave; Emma Taylor, Middleton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Carol and Rita; his brother, Robert; brothers-in-law, Hubert "Sonny", Howard, Darryl and great grandchildren, twins, Sidney and Charlie.
Linda wishes to extend her heartfelt gratitude to the Victorian Order of Nurses, doctors, nurses, and personal care workers of the Valley Palliative Care & Continuing Care Teams with very special thanks to all family members who took such kind and gentle care of Earl through his battle with lung cancer these past few months.
Visitation with reception will be held 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2024 , in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. A private family graveside service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses - Annapolis Branch, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
