LIVINGSTONE, Edna Winnifred (Mahon), daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (McCallum) Mahon, passed away at home in Middleton, Nova Scotia on September 9, 2016. Born May 16, 1922 in Bass River, Nova Scotia, the family moved to Truro when she was six years old following her father's sudden death. She attended Truro schools followed by the Provincial Normal College, later renamed Nova Scotia Teachers College. She and husband Bill moved to Middleton in the late 1940's and established a great group of friends. Edna taught Home Economics at Middleton Regional High School for many years. A highlight of her career was a one year exchange with a school in Derbyshire England in the early 80's. Edna loved to explore the world and travelled extensively during her retirement years. She had great memories of her trips to China, South Africa, Europe and Russia. She was also known for her many hats and the love of the Royal Family. Over the years she has been an active community volunteer, with a focus on the Rosemary Chapter I.O.D.E., UCW, Macdonald Museum, and the Soldiers' Memorial Health Auxiliary Society. In 1988 she was honored to receive a provincial volunteer award for her work and commitment to the community. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Bill; daughters Leslie Rees and Patricia Altas, and siblings Claude Mahon, Robb Mahon and Abbie Reid. She is survived by son, Bill (Elizabeth) of Kentville; son-in-law's Robert Rees and Frank Altas; five grandchildren, Melanie, Jacqueline, Heather, Allison and Michael as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. By request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13 th in St. John's United Church in Middleton, with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Macdonald Museum, Middleton. A heartfelt "thank you" to all her loyal friends who kept visiting, the great staff of the VON and Mary Lou Cole.
