Edward Augustine McInnis ~ Age 87, Kingston, Kings County, N.S., passed away on Wednesday, October 22, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on May 9, 1938, in Sydney, he was the son of the late James A. "Gussie" and Agnes (Bryne) McInnis.
Edward proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 35 years, retiring in 1988. Throughout his career, he held several postings across Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec. One of his most memorable experiences was his early posting in Germany at the age of 21. He also served as a U.N. Peacekeeper in the Golan Heights and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, Kingston.
Following his military career, Edward continued his work in communications with the Department of National Defense at CFB Halifax–Stadacona, retiring in 1999. In retirement, he enjoyed working in the Pro Shop at Paragon Golf Course.
An avid sports enthusiast, Edward loved watching any sporting event on television. He especially enjoyed playing golf, cards, darts, and curling. Above all, Edward loved spending time with his family. He always looked forward to Jane, Todd, and the grandkids' visits to Grandma and Grampy's house.
Edward is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth J. (Hardy); daughter, Jane (Todd) Caiger, Halifax; and grandchildren, Emma (Ryan) and Mitchell (Jenna). He is also survived by his sisters, Jean (Michael) McMullin, Saint John, N.B., and Paula (Robert) Belanger, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary (Phil) Hachey, and brother, Alexander "Sandy" (Kay) McInnis.
A service in celebration of Edward's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2026 , in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, 1472 Veterans Lane, Kingston, when family is home from abroad. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
