Elizabeth "Betty" Buelah Bent

Bent, Elizabeth “Betty” – 97, of Moshers Corner, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026 in Grand View Manor, Berwick surrounded by her family. She was a daughter of the late Harold and Cora (Longmire) Riordan.

Betty graduated from Normal College with a degree in Education, and while there, was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. Betty and Lloyd were married in 1953. She taught school in Moshers Corner, even teaching her own son, Stephen, for half a year. Moving on from teaching in the classroom, Betty was a full-time mother of five boys on the family farm, a home where music was a constant presence, and fresh baking could always be smelled in the kitchen. Mum enjoyed puzzles and crosswords and was an avid reader of mostly Victorian era fiction and Agatha Christie novels.

Surviving are her sons, Stephen (Kim), Moshers Corner; George (Nancy), Dartmouth; Harold (Cheryl), Smithers, B.C.; Peter (Stacey), Spa Springs; Blair (Elaine), Berwick; grandchildren, David, Darrell (Jessica), Matthew, Katie (Justin), Amy (Derek), Sean (Kirsten), Robert, Jamie, Andrew (Natasha), Connor (Lynzi), Bradley (Sarah), Christopher, Emily, Matthew, Ellen, Claire; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Charlotte, Thomas, Edward, Russell, Greta, Robyn, Brynnlee, Harlan, Mason and Oren. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; sisters, Phyllis Littlewood and Isabel Miller.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Winslow and Ross units of the Grand View Manor for their wonderful care.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448, from where the funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026. Rev. Jeff Milne officiating. A reception will follow. Private interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton.
