MERRILL, Elizabeth Yule "Betty" - 65 of Kentville and formerly of Bridgetown, known by her friends most of her life as Betty (Hogg), passed away peacefully Sunday, June 1, 2014 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Gravelbourg, Sask., she the daughter of the late Stanley and Ann (Ross) Fitzharris. Betty had lived in Moose Jaw, Sask., Digby, Yarmouth and Bridgetown, but most recently had settled in Kentville. She loved playing cards, cooking was her passion and loved sharing her recipes with everyone. Educating people about Parkinson's was important to her. Betty is survived by her husband Rick Merrill, Kentville; daughters Anne (Jim) Callanan, Middleton, Patti (Bonnie) Hogg, Calgary, Carolyn (Jason) Coulombe, Middleton and Barb (Jamie) Grant, Yarmouth and their father Raymond Hogg, Yarmouth; brother David (Jenny) Fitzharris, White Rock, BC; five grandchildren Rebecca, Kristina, Caitlin, Blake and Sophie; nephew Matthew. Betty had a lot of friends at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown and her family are very appreciative of their kindness shown to her while she was a resident there. The nursing staff at Valley Regional Hospital was outstanding as well, their compassion overwhelming. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where the funeral service will be held 2:00PM Thursday, June 5, 2014 with Rev. George Allen officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only.
