NEILY, Elsie "Jean" - age 86 of Torbrook Mines passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in West New Annan, NS, Jean was the daughter of the late Dan and Hazel (Upton) Byers. After completing her Registered Nurse training at Moncton Hospital, Jean worked at the Truro Hospital before continuing her education at Dalhousie University, and becoming a Public Health Nurse. Her career took her to Annapolis County where she met her future husband, Reagh Neily. Together they renovated a family home and raised three children. While Jean no longer worked as a Registered Nurse, she continued to provide care and assistance to many members of her family and community, as well as any bird or animal that she could help. Jean was a participant and leader in many organizations including church, missions,Girl Guides, hospital auxiliary, community centres and senior's organizations. She was an active member of the Torbrook and Port Williams United Baptist churches. Jean loved to experience the world and expand her knowledge through reading, conversations and social interactions. She valued, above all, her family; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest treasures. After Reagh's passing in1995 she moved to Port Williams where she lived with her daughter and family. During her final few years she lived at Tibbett's Home For Special Care in Wilmot, where she won the hearts of staff and residents alike. Jean's good nature and concern for others endeared her to all who had the privilege of coming to know her. Jean is survived by her daughter Anne (Mike Forsythe) Port Williams; sons Donald (Kathryn), Charlottetown, PEI and Bob (Kelly), Torbrook Mines; brothers Don (Betty)Byers, Tatamagouche and Neil (Jean) Byers, West Bank, BC; sisters-in-law Joyce Byers (Truro), Ethel McLane (Torbrook Mines), Leola Murray (California); grandchildren, Kirk, Marci, Isaac, Laura, Garth, Andrea, Mueni, Katinda, Jonathan and Simon; great grandchildren Paige, Ashliee, Zachery and Brayden. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Ernest "Reagh" and brother David Byers, brother in law Robert Neily, sister in law Ora Baker. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at 6 to 8 pm, Saturday April 11, 2015 at Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825-3448 with a memorial service at 2 pm, Sunday April 12, 2015 at the same location, with Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. Interment will be in Torbrook United Cemetery at a later date.
