Obituary

Coleman, Erma May - 95. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother. Mom left us to be with her Lord in her usual quiet and peaceful manner on May 12, 2023, at Grand View Manor, Berwick. Mom spent the last weeks of her life surrounded by her loving family and compassionate caregivers. Born May 8th, 1928 in Canning, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Clara (Webster) Spicer. Growing up with three sisters and two brothers, Erma had a keen fashion sense, a fierce loyalty to loved ones, and a hearty sense of humour enjoying many a good belly laugh. After a fateful meeting at an Evangeline Beach corn boil, on June 14th, 1952, Erma married her love and lifelong dance partner, the late Richard "Dick" Coleman. Over their 65 years together they raised three beautiful daughters and were blessed to share their lives with many grand and great-grandchildren. They travelled the world living in Lahr, Germany; Grande Prairie, Alberta; Saint Jean, QC and shared many trips including family visits to Manila, Philippines; Richmond, VA and many more. Erma made many a trip across Canada to support Dick at National curling bonspiels and enjoyed throwing a few rocks herself over the years. Nanny was a truly enthusiastic sports fan and could often be found on the edge of her seat (or hooting and hollering) at one of her grandchildren's games. Peppermint Nanny loved to bless her family with her world-famous strawberry rhubarb pie, icebox cookies, Nanaimo bars, or blueberry muffins made with berries she and Papa handpicked at Nichol's Farm. Erma was a faithful member of Kingston Baptist and especially enjoyed singing in the choir both at church and local nursing homes. Nan had music in her soul and even days before her passing perked right up and sang every word to a few beloved hymns. She was a lifetime member of Mayflower Chapter #2 Eastern Star, joining in 1989, and cherished the many deep friendships and sense of community. Erma is survived by her daughters Debbie Smith of Dartmouth; Karen (Clare) Ramsay of Meadowvale; Kim (Bob) Power of Dartmouth; grandchildren Matt (Katie) and Richard (Lindsay) Smith; Erin and Stephanie Power; Krista (Joel) Cox and Ryan (Jillian) Bauer; Bruce (Sara) Ramsay; Amanda (Tom) Bettle; Eileen (Tim) Prosser; Douglas (Kayla) Ramsay and Anthony (Ann) Ramsay; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Muriel Shaw and brothers-in-law Reg (Fe) and Amos Coleman. Besides her husband and parents, Erma was predeceased by sisters Leone Taylor and Ruth Jordan; brothers Frank and Fred Spicer; son-in-law Dennis Smith; grandson Danny Bauer and granddaughter Ashley Power. An extra special thanks to Mom's extended family at GVM - thank you for loving her and know that Mom loved you with all her heart! Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 6-8pm Tuesday, May 16th, 2023, at Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free: 1-855-825-3448 beginning with an Order of the Eastern Star service. Private family interment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Memorial Service to be held at 2pm Wednesday May 17th, 2023, at Middleton Baptist Church, 111 Commercial St., Rev.
