CORBETT, Ernest George Whitman - 76 of Port Lorne passed away peacefully Monday, May 12, 2014 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, he was the son of the late Ronald and Dorothy (Whitman) Corbett. Ernest had a great love of the sea, only second to the love he had for his family and community. He was a longtime member of the Port Lorne Fire Department, Fundy View Cemetery Committee and the Port Lorne Preservation Society. Ernest is survived by a daughter Darlene Corbett, Lower Sackville; sons Dennis (Cyndi), Middleton, Kevin (Raelene), Port Lorne and Jason (Kerry), Whitby, Ontario; sisters Vesta Nicholson, Riverview , New Brunswick and Arlene Draegar, Winnipeg, Manitoba; grandchildren Collin, Christopher, Timothy, Jotham, Maria, Liam, Keelan, Alyssa and Dustin; great grandchildren Evelynn and Kylee; also his constant K-9 companion, "Butch". He was predeceased by his wife the former Evelyn Lewis. At Ernest's request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 with Pastor Heather Pearle-Gillis officiating. Interment will be in the Fundy View Cemetery, Port Lorne followed by a reception at the Port Lorne Fire Hall. During his illness, Ernest was enveloped in the love and compassion of his caregiver, Annie Gordon ~ his angel. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Annie for her gift of love.
