DeEll, Esther Evangeline – age 83 of East Margaretsville, NS passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born in Margaretsville, NS she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Marallie (Finley) Downie. Esther was employed for 8 years as a cleaner with O.H. Armstrong Ltd. She was a member of the Margaretsville Women's Institute; loved gardening and volunteering and was an active member of her community helping with many Margaretsville community suppers. Esther is survived by her husband, Arthur; daughters Shirley (Lawrence) Silver, Springfield; Sylvia DeEll (Warren Morse) , Kingston; Christine (Jeffery) Saltzman, Melvern Square; Edith DeEll (Kenneth), BC; Maryann DeEll (Stephen Faulkner), East Margaretsville; Verna DeEll (Richard), Halifax; sons Arthur DeEll (Diane), Hamilton, ON; James DeEll (Bev), Burlington, ON; Jerry DeEll (Tanya), Auburn; Dean DeEll, Forest Glade; sisters Florence Downie, Montreal; Elaine (Holden) Armstrong, Greenwood; brother Emery (Eleanor) Downie, PEI; sister-in-law Hazel Downie, Bridgetown; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Esther was predeceased by brother; Ralph Downie and a sister in infancy. Visitation will be held 2:00PM-4:00PM Sunday February 12, 2017 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where funeral service will be held 2:00PM, Tuesday, February 14, 2017 with Rev. Seth Moore officiating. Interment will be in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square. Family flowers only please. Donations in Esther's memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.
