Eugene "Denny"
William Lunn
May 9, 1933 – January 6, 2022
Denny passed away peacefully on January 6, 2022, after a brief illness at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, at the age of 88. Born in Newport Station, Denny was the only child of the late William Godfrey and Pearl Bertha (Smith) Lunn. Denny enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force at an early age. During the span of his 32 year career, his postings included France with the RCAF aerobatic team (the Skylancers), Summerside, Greenwood, Edmonton, and Trenton. He ended his military career as a recruiter in Charlottetown. Denny was extremely proud of his military life and service to his country. Upon his retirement, Denny and his wife, Patsy Jean, returned to their family home in Greenwood. Denny's many hobbies included gardening, sport card collection and attending yard sales, but his true passion was folk art. He became quite well known locally for his Maude Lewis-like style painting. He enjoyed painting creative scenes using many different objects ranging from rocks to barrel staves to buoys. The more unique the object, the better.
Denny also played an active part in Valley men's hockey as a referee in the '70s and became Chief Referee for Western Valley. Denny was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, BR No. 98 and the RCAF Association in Greenwood. Denny was one of a kind and he added color to our world through his folk art, conversations and story-telling. Denny is survived by his partner of 20 years, Marion Kennedy; sons, Stephen (Patricia), Hantsport; Scott (Lynne), Trenton, ON; and daughters, Sharon (Tim) Snyder, Newcombville; and Sandra (Alan) Andersen, Kentville; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lillian, Eileen, Nina, Margie (Lou); and brother-in-law, Blair (Karen). He was predeceased by his wife, Patsy Jean; and brothers-in-law, Eric, Gord, Harley (Pop), Ken, Beverly, Harold; and sisters-in-law, Amy, Marg, and Susie.
