Eunice Maxine Doherty

DOHERTY, Eunice Maxine ~ of Waterville, Kings Co., N.S., passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Grand View Manor in Berwick on Wednesday the 22nd of July, 2026. Born in Upper Falmouth, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Leigh and Eva (Benedict) Rockwell.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl; and her brothers, Gordon (Marian), Ronald (Marge) and Robert “Bobby” Rockwell; and sisters, Jean Shepherd (Owen), Thelma Walsh (George).

Eunice is survived by her sons, Harold (Heather), Allan (Glenda) and Philip (Patti); and daughters, Belinda Armstrong (the late Chris), Sandra VonRichter (Kenny) and Diane Bean (Howard); sister-in-law, Sharon. Eunice had 11 grandchildren;14 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren who will all miss her guiding hand and loving nature.

Eunice started her employment with the Department of National Defense in Camp Aldershot where she met the love of her life, Carl. She followed him to various postings around Canada and worked at the Fredericton Airport for years when in Oromocto, NB. Mom loved children and enjoyed having them around more than she did adults. She always made time to listen to their concerns, spent hours instilling them with her love of music and always endeavored to encourage their interests in education, family and their future. There wasn't anything more important than their confidence shared during their many sleepovers. Mom was known for her knitting, cooking/baking, and her love of dance and music. Stories have been told of the dust flying at the Blue Grass festival held in Black Rock. She loved her country music and gospel hymns. She enjoyed interaction and conversations with others....no one was a stranger.

She treasured time spent with her family, especially her mother and father who she loved dearly. She was scrupulous in maintaining her budget but always gave generously to various organizations in need. Mom had a fine sense of humor and loved to laugh. She enjoyed lexicons, was always up to date on current events, medical shows and would often say she wished she had gone into Medicine or Law. She was a "noticing" woman meaning she noticed when her family needed someone who would listen and to offer advice. She always had our back, and her family knew that if she/he had a problem to talk to Mom. She was a "fixer". She enjoyed playing Bingo and a good cup of tea. Eunice believed in telling the truth and raised her children with the belief that if you didn't have something nice to say, then say nothing. Our family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Chase Unit at the Grand View Manor. A Valley girl, she wanted to be close to her family and being nearby, we were confident that she received wonderful care and consideration

The family will attend a graveside service in the Berwick Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest, alongside her husband Carl, with Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating. All are welcome to attend a reception honoring both Mom and Dad from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Monday the 17th of August in the Cambridge Community Centre, 5951 Highway 1 in Cambridge. ln lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department, Christmas Daddies Telethon or the Smile Campaign for Children.
