BOWLBY, Fern Marion 75, of Middleton, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 20, 2010, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, Fern was a daughter of the late Cyril Sr. and Myrtle (Magarvey) White. She was a graduate of Mack Business College, Kentville, having been employed in secretarial positions at the Kentville Courthouse, the Nova Scotia Sanatorium and lastly, the Kentville Research Station. In 1972, she moved to Middleton and resided there until the time of her death. She was a member of St. John's United Church, Middleton, serving as an Elder and on a number of committees. She was a member of the Annapolis Valley Historical Society and a member of the Rosemary Chapter I.O.D.E. She was an avid bridge player. In 2001, she received the Volunteer of the Year award. She is survived by a brother, Cyril (Penny), Kentville; a stepson, Eric (Sheila) Smith, Middleton; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; a niece, Nancy (Robert) Chittick, Coldbrook, and their children, Zachery and Kieran; nephews, Jeffrey (Deanna) White, Porter's Lake, and their children, Laura and Cameron; Gregory (Melissa) White, Kentville and their children, Emma and Connor; a number of cousins, specifically cherished cousins, Sharon Unsworth and Sheila Robinson; special friends and neighbours, Maureen, Geri, Barbara, Clyde and Gordon and many other wonderful friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husbands, David Palmeter, Kentville; Roy Smith, Middleton; and most recently, Russell Bowlby, Middleton, and stepdaughter, Linda Connell. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, June 24, in St. John's United Church, Middleton, Rev. Karen Ralph; Rev. John McNally and Rev. Herb Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Mid-Valley Palliative Care Program, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.
