Obituary

WHITMAN, Florence Elizabeth - 76, of Lawrencetown, NS passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Audley and Lena (Thorne) Franks. Florence was well known in the community as an always cheerful and friendly face at the Wades/Foodland store in Middleton, where she worked for many years. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Lawrencetown and Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Middleton where she sang in the choir, was past Secretary of St. Andrew's Guild, and was a member of the Anglican Church Women and the Birthday Club. Florence loved gardening, and her home in Lawrencetown is surrounded by many of the beautiful flowers that she planted. She was also an avid cook and baker. Her family enjoyed the smells of homemade bread and the dozens of biscuits that she made each year for the St. Andrew's Strawberry Suppers. She is survived by her daughters: Roberta (James) Wood, Inglisville; Jean Whitman, Woodstock, NB; Helen (Michel) Whitman, Halifax; Frances (Tony) Williams, Edmonton, AB; Mary Whitman (Warren Sabean), Port Lorne; Toni (Tim) Whitman, Lawrencetown; son, Tom (Lorraine) Whitman, Lawrencetown; sister, Norma (Clifford) Herring, Murray River, PEI; brothers: James Franks and Charles (Ella) Franks, both of Lawrencetown; grandchildren: A.J. Wood, Terra Wood, Zabrina (Medo) Whitman, Marc André Therrien, Sophie Therrien, Justin Tews, Lynnzee Tews, Daniel Oikle, Amber Oikle; great-grandson, Aiden; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tom Whitman and son-in-law, Winston Grant. Visitation will be held 7-9PM Sunday, March 24, 2013 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Funeral service will be held 2:00PM Monday, March 25, 2013 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Middleton with Rev. Matthew Sponagle officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations in Florence's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Annapolis Royal Nursing Home, or Grace Haven Home for Seniors.
