Obituary

HORTON, Frank "Grant" – Age 90, of Kingston, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Bridgetown, on March 3, 1928, he was a son of the late Ralph and Rhoda (Bent) Horton. Grant loved adventure and as a young man left Nova Scotia for Toronto. He was a mechanic by trade, obtained his pilot license and learned to scuba dive. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in his 30's and was stationed in Val d'Or, Bagotville, France and Greenwood. After military service, Grant worked as a civilian at CFB Greenwood and also pursued his passion of farming which he did until the end. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family, Second World War history and will be fondly remembered for his storytelling. Surviving are daughters, Mona (Ken) Granter, Kingston; Carolyn Horton, Bedford; grandchildren, Ryan and Dylan Granter and Eric Horton; special friend, Donna Goodwin, Upper Granville; siblings, Norma "Sis" Potter, Aylesford; Norman "Pete" Horton, British Columbia; sister-in-law, Carrie Horton, Ottawa, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jill; brothers, John, Charlie, Edwin and Owen. All are welcome to attend a celebration of Grant's life at 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 28 th , 2018, at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Middleton, N.S., B0S 1P0, toll free 1-855-825-3448, with a reception to follow. In keeping with Grant's wishes cremation has already taken place. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Grant's memory may be made to Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation, Middleton, the charity of your choice, or by giving the gift of life by donating blood to Canadian Blood Services. The family would like to thank the staff at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and Dr. Stephen Coubain and his staff for all their care and compassion shown to Grant.
