Fred had many loves in his life, but for his first love was for Jehovah God, his family and of course, seafood. He had a unique sense of humor and a passion for the outdoors, which included fishing, hunting, gardening, canoeing, working in the woods, camping, swimming and travelling. In his earlier days Fred spent picking potatoes and raking blueberries in Maine and picking blueberries in Vermont. As a teenager, Fred and brother Willie fished lobster with wooden traps from a dory. He had a great passion for music. Some of his favorite past times were singing, guitar playing, and harmonica, jam sessions and playing cards with friends and family. Fred enjoyed making bread and led the yearly family tradition of making sauerkraut and eating the fruits of his labor. He was known as "Grampy with no thumb" to his grandchildren. In his cooking career, he shared the galley with his son Steve and nephew, Reggie. His love of the ocean drew him back to the sea where he spent many years as a chef on the Coast Guard boat, The Chebucto. Fred drove many vehicles but Fords were definitely his preference. He was gifted with the art of yodeling and storytelling and he was always eager to share information or stories on family roots. All who knew Fred will remember him as a serious student and advocate of the Bible. He and Hazel always made spiritual things a priority and were zealous in sharing the good things they learned with their families and neighbors. A memorial service will take place, this Thursday, December 10th at 1:30 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 337 Highway #1Kingston NS with Mr. William Bell officiating.
