Obituary

KENNEY, Major Fred Emmerson (ret'd) – age 80, of Middleton, Annapolis Co. It is with great sadness but with gratitude for his life and wonderful memories that the family shares the passing on Sunday, February 4, 2018 of Fred Kenney, with family by his side in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. He lost his battle with severe Parkinson's and Lewy Body disease. Fred was born on December 11, 1937, to the late Lenora (Daley) and Fred Kenney. Being the son of a professional baseball player, the family moved a lot and this continued when Fred joined the RCAF. He graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree on May 18, 1961, and on May 20, married his best friend, Grace Franklin. Then they started their military life with Fred receiving his wings in 1962 and over the years flew T33's, 104's, Falcons and Challengers. He had four passions in life, his family, flying, golf and cars. Fred had two daughters, Susan and Laura and along with Grace were his main focus in life. Flying was his job and one he thoroughly enjoyed. Golf was started in his 20's and had three holes in one at Paragon and at one time (as he would say for a very short time) he had an eight handicap. Fred was Tournament Director and President of the Nova Scotia Golf Association. As for cars he enjoyed his 1956 MGA, MGBGT and 1969 Mercedes just to name a few. His favourite team in football was Green Bay Packers and liked the Toronto Blue Jays, but only when they were winning. Fred and Grace retired to Middleton in 1986 and he built his own home on Gates Mountain with the help of friends, relatives and the odd professional. Fred leaves to mourn his wife of 56 years, Grace; daughters, Susan Beth, Middleton; Laura Ann (Bill) Morgan, Truro; grandchildren who were the light of his life and their "Ga Ga", Zoe and Jonah Morgan; brothers, John (Grace), Michael (Roberta); brother-in-law, Ron (Barb) Franklin; sister-in-law, Betty Franklin; many nieces and nephews. His dog, Diva will miss him terribly. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson, Zachary Morgan; mother and father-in-law, Bertha and "CD" Franklin; brother-in-law, Daniel Franklin. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Memorial service for Fred will take place at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 11, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main, 902-825-3448. Rev. Warren Jones officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Kings Co. SPCA, Twelve Baskets Food Bank or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. McGuire, Dr. King, Dr. Goodine and Dr. Brooks for all their care. Also a special thanks goes to all the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge for all your care and compassion, we cannot thank you enough.
