Obituary

LOMBARD, Fred Joseph ~ age 84 of Berwick, formerly of Bridgewater, NS, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Little Brook, Digby Co., he was a son of the late Emile Lombard and Rita (Ward) (Lombard) Burgoyne. Fred grew up in Digby and was the oldest of six boys.

Fred started working as a young boy peeling pulp wood, which at the end of the week when he got paid, he would give most of it to his mother to help with the family. He later went on to driving the mail truck and milk truck. He had a strong work ethic. As he got a bit older, Michelin plants were opening in Nova Scotia, so he applied and got a job in the Bridgewater plant. He started as a labourer, then decided to take courses in night school so he could become qualified to work in the boiler room, in which he worked for over 30 years as a Stationary Engineer, retiring as a foreman from the Bridgewater plant in 1993.

He and his first wife Blondie sold their home in Bridgewater. Fred converted a bus and travelled throughout the United States and Alaska. After Blondie's passing November 12, 1996, Fred returned to Nova Scotia and stayed with family. He then reconnected with Clara and they decided to return to Bridgewater and purchase a home in Midville Branch where they remained for 20 years.

Fred, a "gentle giant", loved the outdoors. He also loved telling countless hunting, trapping, and fishing stories. He had a love for old time music; a talented musician, he played guitar, violin, and harmonica. He especially enjoyed weekend camping trips travelling throughout the province to various bluegrass festivals and jam sessions.

He is survived by his common-law wife, Clara Wagner of 26 years; son, Fred (Christine "Chris" Loblick), Edmonton, AB; granddaughters, Allison, Emily, Eila; two great grandsons; brothers, Paul  Burgoyne (Barb Sulis); Burnell Burgoyne (Lee Walsh), both of Seabrook; niece Brenda (Fred) and son Chad Melanson, Church Point; stepchildren, Karen (Harold) Prime, Coldbrook; Cindy (Don) Dufour, Lewiston, Maine, USA; Laurie (Ronnie) Carter, Yarmouth; Mark Wagner (Melissa Marshall), Centreville, Kings Co; step grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle, Noah, Emily, Sam and Tristan, step great grandchildren and nieces.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by wife Blondie and brothers Murray, Merlin and David Burgoyne.
