(Lloyd) Beattie
July 21, 1932 – March 3, 2023
BEATTIE (Lloyd), Freda Gertrude ~ passed away peacefully at 90 years of age on Friday, March 3 rd , 2023, in Gables Lodge, in Amherst, N.S. Born in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Howard and Jessie Etta (Mahaney) Lloyd. Besides her parents, Freda was predeceased by her husband, George F. Beattie; son, Randall Beattie; brother, Claude Lloyd; and sister, Lina Middleton. She is survived by two of her children, Barry (Sharyl) Beattie, Berwick; and Tanya (Kevin) Rafuse, Kingston; nine grandchildren, Sonia, Jennifer, Jeff, Brandon, Carson, Amanda, Jason, Mark, and Michael; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren, special cousin Etta Brown, and several nieces and nephews.
In her younger years, Freda worked at the Berwick Fruit Company, Valley Hairstylist, and was a seasonal worker at a local nursery and farm. In 1970, she found her calling and started working in the kitchen at the Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, until her retirement in 1995. During that time, she bowled in the local hospital league where she won many trophies, or as she called them, "dust collectors". In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at her church and UCW group, at the Windemere Community Hall, United Church Camp, and the Apple Dome, to name a few. She enjoyed a good game of cards, playing darts (where she won a few more "dust collectors"), and spending time with her family. She will be remembered by many for her delicious cooking, and her warm and welcoming smile.
The family wishes to extend a thank-you to the staff of the Grand View Manor (Chase Unit) for the loving care they provided our Mom during her years there.
