SMALL (McKay), Freda Jane – Age 87, of Berwick, Kings Co., formerly of Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on October 19, 1931, in Aylesford, she was a daughter of the late Roy H. and Elva M. (Wagner) Jackson. Freda and her late husband Arnold had lived in New Hampshire before returning home to the Annapolis Valley. She then purchased Julia's Store (Ladies Fashions) in Aylesford. Freda later worked as a personal care worker at Grand View Manor, Berwick, retiring from the Recreation Department. She was an active member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Auburn, A.C.W., Cursillo Movement and had sang in the church choir. Surviving are sons, William (Leslie) Small, Cottage Cove; Thomas (Janet) Small, Aylesford; granddaughter, Danielle Small; brother, Perry (Diane) Jackson, Scotts Bay; nieces & nephews, Lesley, Steven, Kathy, Susan, Martha, Betty, Mary and Phillip; stepson, William (Jane) McKay, Brighton, Ont.; stepdaughter, Sandra (John) Ewert of Burlington, Ontario; step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Taylor, New Brunswick. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Arnold A. Small; second husband, Gerald E. McKay. Visitation will take place from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, January 6, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m., Monday, January 7, in St. Mary's Anglican Church, 20 Morden Rd., Auburn, with Rev. Mel Malton officiating. Interment in St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery, with a reception to follow. Donations may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church, or to your favourite charity.
