Obituary

BONN, Gary Grant ~ Age 72, of Waterville, Kings Co. It is with loving memories and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a loving husband and father, Gary Grant Bonn, who passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, January 21, 2022, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS, after a long four-year battle with stomach cancer. Born on January 7, 1950, in Sweets Corner, Windsor, NS, he was the son of the late Earl and Mabel (Cox) Bonn. Gary is survived by the love of his life of 38 years, Heather (Gould); his wonderful daughters, Andrea (Greg), Dartmouth, NS; and Shawna (Jonathan) Marsan, Methuen, Massachusetts; his grandchildren whom h e thought the world of and adored with all of his heart, Sydney, Brooklyn, Carson and soon to be grandson Lincoln Marsan; brothers, Kevin (Margaret), Jimmy (Isabelle); sister, Linda (Doug) Patterson; brother-in-law, Brian (Charlene) Gould; sisters-in-law, Kathleen O'Donnell, Elizabeth Keddy and several nieces and nephews.

Gary worked as a cook at the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre for 36 years. After he retired, Gary spent two years cooking at Jonny's Cookhouse and then went on to work for seven years as a cook at the Nova Scotia Youth Centre. He was passionate about cooking and a few of the foods that he was well known for were his biscuits, dressing, soups, sticky buns, cracker jack and molasses cookies. For over 40 years, he was an avid member of the Annapolis Valley Labour Council. He helped to organize and was very involved in the CUPE 1472 and held many different positions within the union.  For 14 years, Gary sat on the Workers Appeal Board for Employment Insurance.  He was involved in the Waterville Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. He also enjoyed working at the church's annual chicken barbecues. Gary loved his daily coffee and enjoyed fishing, especially the fishing trips he took with his brothers. Gary had a heart of gold, he always put others before himself and was willing to lend a helping hand. He was a social butterfly who loved to tease and have conversations with everyone. He was very proud of his family and his greatest joy were his grandchildren.Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Ida (Balsor) Gould; brother, Leonard; sister, Mona Sanford; brothers-in-law, Danny Sanford, Frank Gould, Ronald O'Donnell; sister-in-law, Judy Gould and nephew, Andrew O'Donnell.
