MURPHY, George Maurice, RN ~ Age 85, of Waterville, Kings Co., N.S., passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, in Q.E.II Health Sciences Centre, V.G. Site, Halifax. Born in Dominion, N.S., he was a son of the late James and Frances (MacDonald) Murphy.
George was a graduate of St. Rita’s School of Nursing in Sydney and later of Dalhousie University in Halifax. Moving to Alberta, he became an instructor and later Director of the School of Nursing at Archer Memorial Hospital. Moving his family back to Nova Scotia, George worked at Kings Regional Rehabilitation Center as Director of Staff Development and the area of Fire and Safety until his retirement.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, the former Faith M. Tetanish; daughter, Karen (David) Marsh, Auburn, N.S.; sons, Chris (Nicola Cassidy) Murphy, Upper Kingsclear, N.B.; David Murphy, Willoughby, Ohio; grandchildren, Danielle (Arick), Lauren, and Quinn (Deanna); great grandchildren, Titus, Camilla, Siena and Magnus; brother, Vernon (Wilma) Murphy, Kingston, Ontario; sister-in-law, Beverley Tetanish, Newport, N.S.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Myrna Bettiol; brothers, Frank and Junior Murphy.
George enjoyed all sports and was always supportive of his family as they participated in various athletic pursuits. He himself played championship softball and curling in Alberta and was an avid skater and player of Old Timer Hockey. George loved camping with his family and enjoyed fishing and gardening, especially growing grapes and making wine. He had a keen interest in electronics and computers and enjoyed photography. George had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humour.
There will be no visitation. All are welcome to attend a memorial service that will take place at 2:00 pm, Monday, June 1st, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Deacon David Hasler officiating, with a reception to follow until 4:00 pm and interment will be in Berwick Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Valley Hospice Foundation. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and nurses in the Oncology department at the Valley Regional Hospital for their care and compassion shown to George and the family.
