Schaffner, George Frederick ~ Age 90, of North Williamston, Annapolis Co., N.S. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, surrounded by LOVE in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville after accidents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Helen (Coldwell); daughters, Debra Lee Schaffner, North Williamston; Wendy (Andrew) Polegato, Nappan; son, George Scott Schaffner, North Williamston; niece Heather, nephews, Allan, Chris; brother, Albert (Peggy); niece Cindy, nephews Brian, Steven, David and family; grandchildren, Amy, Bradley, Leah, Cara and Drew; great grandsons, River, Finn, Jace and baby Vincent George; brother – law, Ronald (Ginger) Coldwell, Whitman Mass., and family; niece, Alison Videto. George was predeceased by parents, Ross and Hazel (Cunningham) Schaffner; baby son, Gary; sister, Barbara Pearson; sister-in-law, Lynda Fairn. George attended school in South Williamson and at Middleton Regional High School. He was employed at Beaver Fruit Co-op, Lawrencetown and delivered feed and groceries to farms in Annapolis County. He was also employed at Bruce Motors and attended trade school to obtain a motor vehicle repair trade. He was employed at the Department of Highways, Middleton and obtained his trade in Heavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder and served Annapolis and Digby Counties until he retired in 1991. He always had a special love of horses and used them on the hobby farm for working in the woods and land. He travelled to many shows, the Exhibition and won many awards. George and Helen travelled to many places such as South to Florida, West to BC, North to Alaska and a sight-seeing trip over the Artic Circle. The family are grateful for the care he received at the Valley Regional Hospital and Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, thank you. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life 2:00PM Saturday, January 25, 2025 in Middleton Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Danny Smith officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton, toll free 1-855-825-3448.
