Thompson, George Edward - age 90, of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025 in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born in East Pubnico, NS he was a son of the late Franklyn and Veda (Goodwin) Thompson. George retired after 30 years as an equipment operator and supervisor with the Department of Transportation. He was a dedicated and long-time member of the Lawrencetown & District Volunteer Fire Department and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 112, Lawrencetown. George was very involved in his community, including being a founding member of the Farm Museum at the Annapolis Valley Exhibition. He spearheaded and developed the project of moving the Veterans Cenotaph from Fairview Cemetery to a location adjacent to the Lawrencetown Volunteer Fire Department. He also collected donations to raise enough funds for a smaller, replacement Monument in Fairview Cemetery, and for purchasing crosses for all Veterans buried there and in the Whitman Cemetery. George was recognized by the Village of Lawrencetown for his long years of continuous volunteering on many Village projects. He was also a leader with the Cubs and Scout programs in Nictaux and Lawrencetown; he was a volunteer 4H leader; a volunteer hockey coach at Lawrencetown arena and he was instrumental in having a Pony division added to the Horse Pulls at the Annapolis County Exhibition, held each year in Lawrencetown. He was an avid golfer, and loved woodworking. George is survived by his sons, Edward, Lawrencetown; Jeffrey (Karen), Port Lorne; Chris (Bonnie), Clarence; daughter, Deborah (Patrick) Hagen, Meadowvale; daughters at heart, Kelly Bakken and Sharon Keizer; grandchildren, Jennifer (Tyler), Chrystyn, Janene (Marty), Alyssa (Cohen), Jordan (Allana), Daphne, Laicy (Devon), George (Kayleigh), Gregory (Tabitha) and Ryan; great grandchildren, Shelby, Hailey, Lillian, Maddox, Evelynn, Jeffrey, William, Kristen, Levi, Elliott, Wyatt, Owen, Annabelle, Kaden, Ben, Remi and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, June; son, Alan; brothers Robert, David, Johnny and sister, Helen. In keeping with George's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations in George's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1855-825-3448.
