THOMS, George Phillip – With sadness, our family announces the passing of George on August 12, 2026, in Middleton, Nova Scotia, at the age of 74.
Born November 16, 1951, in Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador, Dad spent his years surrounded by a large circle of family and friends, where he could be found woodworking or doing carpentry, which became his life’s work. In 1987, Dad moved to Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, and was subsequently employed as a civilian by the Department of National Defence at CFB Goose Bay.
While in Goose Bay, he met his spouse, Sybil, and they spent countless hours enjoying The Big Land at the cabin at Otter Creek and snowmobiling, to name just a few. In 1998, Dad transferred to CFB Greenwood, Nova Scotia, where he retired in 2020. Here Dad could often be found collecting driftwood and beach rocks along the Bay of Fundy.
While many loved relatives predeceased our father, we would like to acknowledge his mother, Phyllis Power (Thoms), and his maternal grandparents, James & Elizabeth Thoms.
Left to mourn are his Spouse, Sybil; Daughters Danielle (Doug), Deanne (Dion); Son Shannon (Tanya); Step-daughters Melissa (Jason) and April (Tim); Grandchildren Nate, Reilly, Luke, Bria, Ella, Livie, Luke, Jaime-Lynn, Evan, Chloe, Lilly; Sisters Donna (Wayne) and Lori.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
