Obituary

White, George "Stanley"- Age 93 of North Range, Digby County, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, in Digby General Hospital. Born in North Range, he was the son of the late George and Mildred (Thibault) White. Stanley started working, as a young man, in the woods using a team of horses to haul logs to a local mill. Stanley became amazingly skilled at dropping trees exactly where someone pointed. He and his wife, Lucille, moved to Mattawa, ON, where he eventually worked with Ontario Hydro as a linesman. When they moved back to Nova Scotia, Stanley became employed with Tidewater Construction where he worked his way up to become superintendent and stayed with the company for approximately forty years. After he retired, he became bored and began working for D.J. Lowe Construction and continued working for four more years.

Stanley spent countless hours volunteering for the Digby East Fish and Game Association (DEFAGA Lodge) and "voluntold" his family to do the same (lol). He was a staunch advocate and tireless supporter of Ducks Unlimited and the work the Fish and Game did to help protect the Tobeatic Wilderness Area in Southwestern Nova Scotia. A lifetime member of the Fish and Game, Stanley served as its president for a time and would jokingly answer the phone, "The White House, President speaking!". Every weekend that Stanley was home from work, he and the family worked in their field of more than fifteen acres of potatoes. He loved country music, his family and dancing on Saturday nights. Stanley was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Lucille; sons, Donnie (Debbie); Bob (Debbie), both of Digby; daughters, Sandra (John), Kingston; Suzanne (Troy) North Range; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Stanley was predeceased by his son Grant (in 2021) and sister Thelma Bacon.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. toll-free 1-855-825-3448. Donations in memory of Stanley may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).
