Obituary

After a recent health decline, Gerald Brenton Mullen, of Springfield NS, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born on July 11, 1944, in Berwick, Gerald grew up in Springfield and loved it so much that he never moved again. He loved cars and trucks from a young age and spent his adult life putting his driving skills to use in various ways. From trucks, to snowplows, sweepers, and salt trucks he did it all. After working for himself for about 12 years Gerald then joined the Department of Highways where he worked for 28 years until retirement. He enjoyed spending time "down at The Shop" tinkering and restoring older cars back to their former beauty. He loved relaxing with his cats Millie and Tabby while they watched Dr Phil in the afternoons. He and Shirley enjoyed camping at Highbury Gardens campground and attending music festivals at Fox Mountain.

Gerald was well known for his sense of humor and was often the life of a conversation with his zest for telling stories and reminiscing about old times - always in his unique and lively manner.

Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, A. Frances Mullen and father, Edwin Gerald Mullen.

Gerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Shirley Roberta (Mason) Mullen, his daughter Kelly Denise Mullen and her spouse Arnold David Lundwall of Webster, Massachusetts; and his son Wade Robert Mullen and his wife Melissa Lynn Mullen of Dartmouth. Gerald's cherished grandchildren are Klea Emilie Frances Richardson, Valerie Louise MacKay Mullen, and Jack Nash Mullen. Gerald's beloved sister is Dr. Rev. Elizabeth Legassie.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, 1-855-825-3448 . The service will be officiated by Rev. Elizabeth Amirault and an informal reception will follow. A graveside burial will occur at a future date.
