Obituary

NEILY, Geraldine Victoria "Jerry" of North Kingston passed away February 10, 2015 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton after a brief illness. Born on Ironbound Island, May 22, 1921 to the late Estella and George Young. The family moved to Kentville in 1925 when Estella and daughter Doris became patients at the NS Sanitorium. She was a graduate of Kings County Academy. Mom had fond memories of her working life, but her favorite job was at the Kingston Co-op, where she got to meet the community. She was a life-long member of the Kingston United Baptist Church, where she served on various committees. She was a volunteer canvasser for numerous organizations and causes. She was awarded a National Service Medal from the Canadian Red Cross for her many years of involvement. Her home was always welcoming to children from the community who came to stay for weeks, months or years, when their family situations demanded it. She enjoyed travelling, knitting and quilt making. Into her 80's she was making flannel quilts to be distributed to the homeless in Halifax through the Salvation Army. She was known in the community for her delicious apple pies and donuts. Mom's life was characterized by the deepest love of family, loyalty to friends and the greatest sense of fairness in all matters. She is survived by daughters, Carol (Len) Gregory and Doris (Leo) Glavine, both of North Kingston, grandchildren Karla Gregory, Bridgewater; Kevin Gregory, Fredericton, NB, Christopher Glavine, Courtney, BC; Stephen Glavine, Salt Spring Island, BC and Michael Glavine, North Kingston. "GiGi" will be sadly missed by great grandchildren Taryn and Garett Pernette of Bridgewater, Carmen, Kennedy and Avery Glavine, North Kingston; sisters, Jane Davidson, Canaan and Carthel Illsley, Kentville and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Carmen and sister, Doris. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service will be held 2:00PM Saturday, February 14, 2015 in the Kingston United Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Bannister officiating. A reception will be held following the service in the Kingston Lions Hall, 1482 Veterans Lane, Kingston. Private family interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery. By request, family flowers only.
