Gertrude "Fearn" Dempsey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gertrude "Fearn" Dempsey, née Hepburn, on August 24, 2026 at the age of 97.

Born in London, Ontario, Fearn and her family soon moved back to the Annapolis Valley, where she grew up in a large family in Aylesford. Fearn loved spending time with her family and enjoyed many happy times at her "Kirkwall" cottage in Morden. Fearn had many different chapters in her life, including working as a telephone operator and at the Wilmot Frenchy's. She always had treats ready for visitors and was most known for her delicious brown bread, pies and squares. In her later years, she enjoyed many hours playing Scrabble and working on jigsaw puzzles. She was a talented painter and spent hours at her easel as she sang along with her favourite musicians, Charlie Pride and Don Williams.

Fearn is survived by her daughter Janet and son-in-law Roland; her granddaughters Natalie (Mohammed), Nikki (Ray) and Jeannie (Jamie), and six great-grandchildren; Ayoub and Mariam Loubani, Militaw and Isla Sewell, and Adelaide and Isabelle Murray. Fearn was predeceased by her husband Grant, parents Robert and Gertrude Hepburn, twin brother Firth, brothers John and Thomas, and sisters Jean and Margaret.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Heart of the Valley Long-Term Care Centre for their compassionate care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026 in Kingston United Church. Rev. Elisabeth Jennings officiating. A reception will follow the service.
