Godfrey, Gertrude Elizabeth – Age 97 of Paradise, Annapolis Co., passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 2, 2023, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Kempt, Queens Co., she was a daughter of the late James and Tressa (Delong) Little. Gertrude's biological mother died when she was born and was raised by Emma and Ernest Kempton. She was the last surviving member of both families.

Gertrude was a member of Paradise Baptist Church, serving 45 years in the choir and various committees within the church.

Gertrude is survived by her son, John (Ailene) Godfrey; niece, Barbara Weagle.

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Shirley Godfrey; sister, Helen Waterman; brothers, Bernard, Robert and Theodore; foster brother, Purney Kempton; foster sister, Ernestine Kempton (Boutilier).

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2023, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Eugene Foster officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
