Gilbert Joseph
Marius Lafreniere
January 27, 1963 – December 11, 2017
Lafreniere, Gilbert C.D. (Retired) - January 27, 1963 - December 11, 2017. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert. He was predeceased by his parents, Real and Claudette. Survived by his wife, of 30 years, Anna; daughters, Alexa "Aj" (Brendan) and Gilann (Bill); step daughter, Janelle (Tony); grandchildren, Hailie, Jacob and Cynthia; siblings, Luc (Josee), Lise (Jean Marc), Monique, Ginette (Alain), Sylvie (Bruno), Julie (Guy); and many nephews and nieces; in-laws, Thelma, Jack (Joan), Doreen, Violet (Harold), Bob (Marie), Joan (Ted), Judy (Tom), Donna, Brenda (Doug), Sandra (Bob), Boyd (Barbara), Barry; many nephews and nieces in-laws. Gil was born and raised in Hull, Quebec and at the age of 20 joined the Navy where he became a Ship's Diver and then a Clearance Diver. Having proudly served 31 years in the "MOB" and reaching the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class he decided to "PULL THE PLUG". He certainly loved being a diver and his diving family. Gil loved all sports and as a toddler his parents put a pair of skates on his feet and his love of hockey was born. He turned out to be pretty good at the game - his team mates loved him - the other team certainly did not. He was also a referee for many years. Woodworking was a passion of his and he made many beautiful pieces over the years. But his greatest love was his wife and children. An outstanding father and husband Gil was patient, kind, respectful, considerate and graciously accepted whatever life bought his way. He will be missed by all those who had the privilege to know him. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on January 9th, 2018 at Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic, 176 Marine Parade Drive, Shearwater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
