Stronach, Gladys Martha ~ age 98, of Margaretville, NS passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Born in East Margaretville on August 23, 1924. She was a daughter of the late Alvah and Isabelle (Gibson) MacMurtery. As a young girl she helped take care of the Margaretville Lighthouse. Gladys married Clinton on June 23, 1947. Gladys was a devoted member of the UCW and St. John's United Church. She was one of the first Fireflies of the Middleton Fire Department. Gladys and Clinton enjoyed square dancing, which took them to the States and EXPO 67. Gladys was the few survivors born in Margaretville. She is survived by her daughters, Isabelle (Gary Grant) Stronach, Middleton; Norma Mailman, New Minas; sons, Hugh (Susan) Stronach, North Alton; Garnet (Joy DeRoche) Stronach, Edmonton, AB; sister, Sandra Baker (Arnold deceased), Margaretville; sister-in-law, Irene MacMurtery (Louis deceased), Middleton; grandchildren Angela (Alan), Alvah (Carol), Audrey (Calvin), Ryan (Colleen), Bradley (Sarah), Terra (Jim), Amie (Jay), David, Robert, Saralynn (Josh); great grandchildren Alex, Andrew (Megan), Adrianna, Vernon, Allison, Lauren, Ayden, Norah, Duncan, Scarlett; great-great grandchildren Vernon, Sophia, Alli, Jaxon and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Clinton; siblings Joe (in infancy), Roland (Edith), Earl (Nelle), Ivan (Phyllis), Dorothy (Carl, Earl), Louis, Ashley, Margaret (Rupert) and son-in-law Keith Mailman. Visitation will be held 1-4 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 where funeral service will be held 2:00PM Thursday, September 8, 2022, with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. For those unable to attend the service there will be a livestreaming of the service available at 1:55 p.m., Thursday, September 8, ADT by selecting the 'livestream' option at the top of the funeral home webpage. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton.
