Glendon Owen

June 23, 1929 – October 4, 2017
Stillwell, Glendon Owen (Wilmot), 1929-2017, passed away in the Valley Regional Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 88. He was born in Bloomington, Nova Scotia, fifth child of Sophia (Newcombe) and John Stillwell. He attended school in Lawrencetown and moved to Ontario in his later teens. He joined the R.C.A.F. as a Communications Tech with postings in R.C.A.F. headquarters Ottawa, Halifax and Edmonton. In Edmonton, he was involved with setting up the Communications Micro Wave, which served as a communications defense line across Canada, and later transferred to Halifax. After leaving the R.C.A.F., he farmed and worked at Bruce Motors as the Service Manager. He graduated with honours from Nova Scotia Teachers College in 1974, and taught Industrial Arts, Biology and Math at A.R.R.A. and AWEC in Annapolis Royal. He was a member of the Annapolis Fly Fishing Association, Greenwood Amateur Radio Club, Greenwood Camera Club and the Royal Canadian Legion #98 in Kingston. After building a 35 foot fishing boat with Rhodes Morris he lobster fished for over twenty years in Margaretsville. Hobbies were fly tying, photography, woodworking, reading and learning about computers. He was a warm and generous person whose family was the most important part of his life. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Leota Hannam and Patricia Bater, brothers John (Jack) Stillwell, Tremaine Stillwell and Murray Stillwell. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Doreen (Sampson), Daughters Holly Stillwell (Cyril Durling) [Wilmot], Kelly Stillwell Leddicote (Kerry Rathbone) [Edmonton], Grandchildren Kyle Stillwell [Fredericton], Kailee Hebb [Greenwood], His brother Gerald Stillwell (Betty) [Middleton] and nieces and nephews across Canada. By request cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Nictaux and District Fire Hall, Highway 10 Nictaux, on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 2-4pm. No flowers by request. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St. 902-825-3448.
