Bent, Gordon Edward - 74, of Mt. Hanley, Annapolis Co., passed away Monday March 18, 2024, in Mt. Hanley. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Joe and Betty Bent. Gordon spent 47 years in the Canadian Forces, including a peacekeeping tour in the Middle East and several years on a naval ship. Following his military career, he ran a small beef farm with his wife in Brooklyn, Annapolis County and worked with the Air Cadet Glider School in Debert. Upon retiring from working life, he enjoyed hunting trips to Newfoundland, taking walks, cutting firewood, landscaping, building rock walls and flower beds for tulips, which were his favourite flower. He especially loved going on four-wheeler trips to the camp with his son and friends. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Middleton Branch No.1 where he was proud to be Sergent of Arms. Gordon was always ready to lend a hand and never asked anything in return. With his big heart, sense of adventure and quick sense of humour, he was deeply loved by all who knew him. Gordon is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Sharon (Moore,) his son, Shawn (Sarah) Bent, Queensland; sisters, Mary Wagner, Lower Sackville; Anne(Rick) Underhilll, Brickton; Linda Bent, Granville Ferry; brothers, David, South Williamston; Richard (Susan), South Alton; Alan (Michele), New Brunswick; Ronald (Theresa), Nictaux; Glendon (Elaine), Bridgetown East; Neil (Judy), Port George; Roger, Prince Albert; Andrew (Kathy), Meadowvale. Also survived by his wife's sisters: Marcia, Patricia, Mary and Jennifer along with countless nieces and nephews and his granddaughter, Stevie, who was the apple of his eye. A celebration service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 2pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, Middleton Branch No.1, Middleton, NS with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Reception to follow in the hall. Burial will take place at the Hillside Cemetery, Port George. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillside Cemetery.
