SKANES, Gordon Lemoine "Gordie" CWO Ret'd - 82 of Kingston, NS passed away suddenly, with Millie by his bedside, Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Bell Island, NL he was a son of the late Randall and Irene (Clemens) Skanes. Gordie retired after 36 years of service (1951-1986) as Chief Warrant Officer in the RCAF. He was an active member of the Parish of Wilmot and was a founding member of All Saints Anglican Church, Kingston and was currently serving as Church Warden. He is survived by his wife the former Mildred Inglis; sons Robin (Cynthia), Petawawa, ON, Paul (Karen), Cardinal, ON and Mark (Dana), Australia; sisters Lillian Peach, Bay de Verde, NL, Marjorie Norman, Midland, ON and Mabel Musgrave, Newmarket , ON; grandchildren Robert, Aaron, Sheldon, Brenton, Nicholas, Connell, Savanna, Sheridan; great grandchildren Logan and Carter as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Frederick, Freeman, Melvin, Bill, Edward, Donald, Louis and Revelyn. At Gordie's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM, Tuesday, May 20th in All Saints Anglican Church, Kingston, Reverend Matthew Sponagle and Rev. Michael McKeage officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to All Saints Anglican Church.
