Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Greta Sproule, a follower of Jesus Christ and the loving Mom and Gram of our family. Greta went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the age of 98.

Born in New Germany, Nova Scotia, Greta lived a life centered in her faith and deep love for her family. Her kindness, generosity, and warm smile touched countless lives, creating memories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved her. Greta was born June 26,1926 to Harold and Lela Conrad, moving to Kentville in her late teens when her Dad accepted a position as chef at the Cornwallis Inn. It was there that she met the love of her life, Hal and thus began a life filled with much happiness. Greta was an incredible cook, whether it was a roast or coconut cream pie, everything looked and tasted Michelin star quality. Her favourite date night was out square dancing with Hal in the beautiful dresses she made mostly by hand. She was also a talented knitter, making beautiful sweaters for her daughter and mittens for all the children as they played for hours in the winter on the "big hill" behind the house. The colourful mittens were always hung on the top of the oil stove to dry. Thursdays were always reserved for her shopping day with Carol to the Greenwood Mall.

Shana and Jennifer always loved their visits with Nanny. Picking blueberries, trying on jewelry, putting on lipstick and dressing up are very fond memories. The girls claim that her frozen chocolate chip cookies were the best!

Greta lived a life centered in her faith and deep love for her family. Her kindness, generosity, and warm smile touched countless lives, creating a legacy that will be cherished memories for the years to come.

Greta is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Doug Morse); granddaughters, Shana (Clovid Lahoud); Jennifer (Jullian Peck); sister, Sylvia Foote; and extended family members included the many babies that she loved to hold and cuddle. She was predeceased by husband, Hal Sproule, daughter Cheryl in infancy, sons Derek and Kevin (dear friend Susan).

A special thanks to the dedicated care staff on the Chase floor of Grand View Manor who took such wonderful care of Greta over the past years. The love that Mom felt for these special caregivers was shown in her smiles and touches. The family is grateful for the love and compassion that they provided.  In addition, gratefulness is extended to the Middleton Baptist Church for the cards and Gloria Troop for the visits.

Today and always, we thank God for the gift of this precious lady. We will remember the unwavering love she showed us, reflecting God's own unconditional love and the lessons she taught us, guiding us to seek Jesus and to walk in His ways. Our grief is lessened with the knowledge that she is now in His presence, free from pain and full of joy.

A private family graveside service will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Middleton Baptist Church. Arrangements entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
